Hey – I’m Tom, an experienced, independent online English tutor specialising in GCSE and A-Level English Literature and Language.

I work one-to-one with students across the UK, helping them develop confident analysis, clear writing, and genuinely exam-ready skills.

As a Master’s graduate with a background in both English Literature and Theatre, I bring a genuine passion for language and ideas; always with a clear focus on not only what examiners are looking for, but why.

Sessions are calm, tailored, and built around understanding, so students leave feeling clearer, more confident, and in control of their learning.

My Approach to English Tuition

Who I Work With

I support motivated GCSE and A-Level students in English Literature, English Language and other essay-based humanities subjects, helping them develop sharper thinking, clearer writing, and stronger exam performance through structured online tuition.

GCSE
English Students

  • Literature and Language

  • Struggling with essay structure

  • Unsure how to analyse texts properly

  • Want to move from a 5/6 to a 7–9

  • Need confidence before exams

A-Level
English Students

  • Literature and Language

  • Deeper analysis, not surface review

  • Need sharper argument and structure

  • Preparing for university-level study

  • Aiming for A/A* grades

Essay-Based Learners

  • Philosophy/Politics/Ethics/Theatre/etc

  • Want clearer argumentation

  • Need help organising complex ideas

  • Struggle to express thinking precisely

  • Want structured, independent thought

My approach works best for students who are open to thoughtful discussion, receptive to feedback, and willing to engage actively in their own progress.

Tom took me from two Grade 3s to two Grade 7s in GCSE English – and somehow made me genuinely enjoy English along the way.

I've stuck with him for three years for a reason.

Getting Started: How It Works

A clear and supportive process designed to build confidence, clarity and steady academic progress from the very first conversation.

1

Initial Conversation

We begin with a free, no-pressure introductory call. This is an opportunity to discuss current challenges, academic goals, and what the student needs most – meaning that we can decide together whether working together feels like the right fit.

2

A Personalised Plan

Following our conversation, I design sessions around the student’s specific texts, exam requirements and areas for development. Each lesson is purposeful, structured and tailored to support measurable progress.

3

Ongoing Academic Support

Lessons are delivered online in a focused, one-to-one setting, with clear explanations, structured practice and thoughtful feedback. Over time, students develop sharper analytical thinking, greater confidence, and stronger written expression.

If this approach feels right for you, the first step is a short introductory conversation.
