Subjects I Teach
I specialise in English Literature and English Language at GCSE and A Level, and also offer support in essay-based humanities subjects such as Philosophy.

My focus across all subjects is the same: developing clear understanding, confident writing, and the analytical skills needed for exam success.
English Literature (GCSE & A Level)
I tutor English Literature at GCSE and A Level, supporting students with set texts across poetry, prose, and drama. Lessons focus on developing strong textual understanding, confident interpretation, and the ability to write clear, well-structured essays under exam conditions.

Together, we work on:
-
Close reading and textual analysis
-
Understanding themes, characters, and context
-
Using quotations effectively
-
Structuring essays clearly and confidently
-
Responding directly to exam questions and assessment objectives

My aim is to help students move beyond retelling the story and towards thoughtful, well-supported analysis - building both confidence and exam readiness.
English Language (GCSE & A Level)
I also tutor English Language at GCSE and A Level, helping students understand how language works and how to write about it clearly and accurately. This includes both analytical and creative components of the course.

Lessons may cover:
-
Language analysis (fiction and non-fiction)
-
Writing analytically about language, structure, and purpose
-
Developing clear, accurate written expression
-
Creative and transactional writing
-
Exam technique and timed responses

English Language can feel abstract or technical, but I focus on breaking concepts down into manageable steps so students feel confident and in control of their writing.
Essay-Based Humanities (including Philosophy A Level)
Alongside English, I offer support in essay-based humanities subjects, including Philosophy. These subjects share many of the same core skills as English: clear thinking, structured argument, and precise written expression.

Support in these subjects focuses on:
-
Understanding key ideas and concepts
-
Developing clear, logical arguments
-
Structuring essays effectively
-
Using evidence and examples appropriately
-
Writing with clarity and confidence under exam conditions

This option is particularly well-suited to students who enjoy discussion and want to improve their ability to express complex ideas clearly and persuasively in writing.

If you’re unsure whether your subject is a good fit, feel free to get in touch to discuss it.
