About Me
I first began tutoring while studying for my Master’s (originally as a way to support myself alongside my studies), but it didn’t take long for me to realise that it was something I wanted to continue long-term.
Now, more than six years later, I’m proud to say I still love it just as much. Whether we’re conjugating verbs or exploring the symbolism of the green light in The Great Gatsby, supporting students as they learn, grow, and gain confidence remains the most rewarding part of my work.
I’m based in Manchester and work online with students across the UK, specialising in GCSE and A Level English Literature and English Language. I work closely with students to develop a strong understanding of texts, confident written expression, and the skills needed for exam success. Alongside this, I also teach essay-based humanities subjects, including Philosophy, supporting students in constructing clear arguments, engaging critically with ideas, and expressing complex thinking with precision and confidence.
Over the years, I’ve worked with learners from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. This includes supporting international students tackling Shakespeare as a second language, helping students rebuild confidence while resitting exams, and working with trainee teachers refreshing their subject knowledge. These experiences have given me both depth of expertise and the flexibility to adapt my teaching to individual learning styles and needs, including those with SEND.
My lessons are structured, supportive, and responsive, combining clear guidance with open discussion. While exam requirements and assessment objectives are always kept firmly in view, I place equal emphasis on understanding why ideas matter and how to express them clearly and confidently.
Above all, I believe that English and the humanities are about ideas, conversation, and confidence. By combining close textual analysis, structured argument, exam preparation, and thoughtful discussion, my aim is to help students not only achieve strong results, but also feel more assured in their own voice - in the classroom, in exams, and beyond.

Credentials
2019-2021
Gender, Sexuality and Culture
Master of Arts
The University of Manchester
My Master’s degree in Gender, Sexuality, and Culture, with a focus on Gothic fiction, has shaped the way I approach literary study and analysis. It allows me to guide students beyond surface-level reading, exploring themes, cultural context, and the subtler layers of meaning within a text. This approach helps students make connections between literature, history, and ideas - developing the kind of thoughtful, well-supported analysis that exam boards reward at higher levels
2014-2017
Drama and English Literature
Bachelor of Arts with Honours
University of Huddersfield
My BA in Drama and English Literature provided a strong foundation in how texts are constructed and how meaning is created through language, structure, and form. This background informs the way I teach English, helping students break texts down methodically and develop the analytical skills needed to study them in depth. The result is greater clarity, stronger written responses, and increased confidence when approaching essays and exams.
